Peer Advisor I – Academic Advising

Peer Advisor I will work with undergraduate students on a walk-in basis to assist with academic success planning in the Academic Advising office. This position is available to both students who have work-study and those who do not have work-study.

Duties and Responsibilities

The bulk of responsibilities will occur during scheduled appointments and walk-in hours to address general advising questions. Training will be provided for all job functions. These inquiries may include:

  • Discussion about declaring/switching majors

  • Degree Tracker & What-If Scenarios

  • Assist with creating Academic Planner plans

  • Prepare for faculty advising meetings

  • Registration

  • Assistance with transfer credits

  • Questions about prerequisites and other graduation requirements

  • Referrals to other departments

  • Create and hold student workshops on a variety of relevant advising topics

  • Academic skill building and mentorship

Peer Advisors will also be responsible for duties outside of the office. These activities may include:

  • Assistance with orientations, open houses, and accepted student’s day

  • Programming efforts around campus

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least sophomore standing as of Fall 2026

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred but 2.75 minimum

  • Is available to work 10-12 hours a week during office business hours

  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills while responding to an array of concerns with a neutral approach.

Wages

$17.00/hr
