Program Administrative Assistant in the Mathematics Learning Center – Mathematics

The Mathematics Learning Center (MLC) at Salem State University is a student-centered academic support space dedicated to helping students strengthen their quantitative skills, build confidence in mathematics, and foster a sense of belonging in STEM and quantitative disciplines. The MLC provides tutoring, embedded support, workshops, placement testing support, and collaborative programming designed to promote student success across the university.

The MLC Program Administrative Assistant will work closely with the MLC Coordinator and student staff to support the daily operations, organization, communication, and implementation of programs and initiatives within the center. This role is ideal for a student who enjoys organization, communication, creative problem-solving, and working in a collaborative student-centered environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Supporting Day-to-Day Operations

  • Assisting with front desk operations and maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and guests.

  • Helping monitor tutoring schedules, appointments, and student traffic within the MLC.

  • Assisting with organization of center materials, supplies, snacks, technology, and operational systems.

  • Supporting the maintenance of shared spaces to ensure the MLC remains organized, welcoming, and student-ready.

Programming & Event Support

  • Assisting with the planning and implementation of MLC programs and initiatives, including workshops, outreach events, study sessions, Finals CafĂ© collaborations, tutor appreciation events, and student engagement activities.

  • Supporting setup, organization, and promotion for campus and community partnership events.

  • Helping coordinate logistics for tutoring-related programming and special initiatives throughout the semester.

Marketing & Communications

  • Assisting with social media content creation and promotion for the MLC (Instagram, flyers, digital displays, Canvas announcements, etc.).

  • Helping create marketing materials and outreach campaigns to increase student awareness and engagement.

  • Supporting communication efforts related to tutoring schedules, events, workshops, and campus collaborations.

Data & Administrative Support

  • Assisting with data collection and organization related to tutoring usage, attendance, events, and student engagement.

  • Helping compile materials and information for reports, assessments, and presentations.

  • Supporting appointment tracking and operational systems such as Navigate360 and other student support platforms.

Student Engagement & Outreach

  • Greeting and assisting students with a welcoming and supportive attitude.

  • Helping students navigate tutoring services, appointments, placement testing support, and available resources.

  • Representing the MLC at campus events such as Student Success Fairs, Open Houses, Accepted Students Days, and other outreach opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attending regular staff meetings and trainings.

  • Assisting with special projects and collaborative initiatives connected to the Mathematics Department and campus partners.

  • Supporting the overall mission of creating an engaging, student-centered learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Interest in student success, education, tutoring, leadership, or community engagement.

  • Experience with social media, event planning, design, or administrative support is a plus.

  • Ability to create welcoming and inclusive environments for diverse student populations.

$17.00/hr
