HESA Graduate Retention Fellow - Student Success I – Enrollment Management

The Graduate Retention Fellow is an integral member of a Student Life/Enrollment Management staff whose primary responsibility will be to provide support in various areas. The Fellow will be exposed to a broad range of student issues and topics, and their application.

The Graduate Retention Fellow experience will provide the student a context to understand the theories/concepts that they are learning through their graduate studies. Based on the retention focus/emphasis, students in the MEd in Higher Education in Student Affairs (HESA) program will be given strong consideration for these positions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Graduate Retention Fellows will gain hands-on experience in some of the following areas: administration, student development, advising, program assessment and evaluation, planning and implementation of services and programs, varied internal projects and assignments (e.g., marketing and promotions, web-site development, program assessment), student outreach to include presentations and representation of their respective office/area at campus events. Additionally, the Fellows will assist in marketing efforts.

A focal point of the Fellows will be an intentional effort to focus on “Best Practices” in retention that can be incorporated into all areas of the university. All Graduate Retention Fellows will be required to develop and submit a presentation proposal to the Graduate Student Research Day that specifically addresses the retention initiative they were involved in and the impact that it had on student success.

The specific responsibilities and duties will need to be determined by the respective offices identified above but must include an intentional program or initiative that focuses on improving the retention rate of undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a currently enrolled HESA graduate student (no minimum grade point average or test scores required). The position requires a self-starter who is a team player, but also able to work independently. The candidate must also possess superior writing, proofreading and interpersonal skills and the ability to apply theory to practice in an effort to improve the University’s retention rate.
