Executive Functioning Coach – McKeown School of Education

The CIS Program at Salem State University is a fully inclusive postsecondary program for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Students in the CIS program share the same experiences as their college peers in academics, socialization, professional development, and independent living. Students become more independent and actively engaged in creating and living their lives. Our program honors dignity and worth and fosters self-determination. Our vision is for full inclusion to be a permanent fixture of the institutional fabric for all stakeholders at SSU.

The Executive Functioning Coach plays a vital role in a student's success in the Salem State CIS program. This position will have the EF Coach working as a support person for their student. The EF coach helps the student to participate in on-campus clubs and activities and guides the student in utilizing campus supports such as the writing center, peer tutoring, and math lab. Also, help with time management and organization skills. The EF coach will also support this student in an internship position for around 2-4 hours per week. This is an in-person position.

Duties and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate shall possess the following qualifications:·

  • Experience working, preferably in special education.·
  • Experience in post-secondary education (maybe as a student).·
  • Strong and tactful advocate for young adults embarking on adult life.· Able to work flexible hours- 3 days per week. Either Monday, Tuesday and Thursday or Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • Ability to communicate positively and relate to students, college faculty/staff
  • Work independently, including taking initiative, being dependable, and being responsible.· Assist students in accessing campus resources, including the Gassett Fitness Center, Library, Peer Tutoring, Math Lab, Writing Center, and Campus Police.
  • Help students plan and practice personal safety techniques, self-advocacy and assertiveness, and social skills, allowing students to be as independent as possible in the college environment.
  • Assist students in travel training.
  • Complete all logs and paperwork as assigned by the high school liaison or CIS staff.

Work with the assistive technology center to develop learning strategies to assist students.
Assist students with their internship opportunities in the local community.
