Career Services Grad Assistant – Career Services

Assist Associate Director of Career Readiness & Integration and other staff in the administration and facilitation of Career Services Programs. Utilize career knowledge and application of student development. Assist students in developing effective career plans that align with life goals. Interface and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers.


Specific duties may include providing assistance in the following areas:
• Individual career guidance and counseling, and professional skill development
• Presenting or co-facilitating career-related workshops, presentations, and programs
• Meeting with students’ groups and organizations
• Supporting and tracking students’ progress in Handshake
• Collaborating with staff to implement career support services
• Collaborating with Employer Relations and Internship staff to support events throughout the school year
• Monitoring and updating the career resources library (Canvas)
• Working to maintain our Social Media presence


Specific Skills and Contributions of Graduate Assistant:
• Administrative Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and customer oriented; Ability to manage multiple tasks and frequent interruptions effectively, strong organizational skills.
• Technical Skills: Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications including Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Handshake and other career-related software.
• Current on social media and other web resources appropriate for position.

Timeline for Work and Completion of Project:
The following will be accomplished in order, moving to the next step when the GA is ready. Depending on the student it can occur over one semester or one year.
1. Train extensively on office protocol, process, and career skills
2. Shadow staff during individual appointments, workshops, and possible employer activities
3. Help cover designated walk-in and/or office hours
4. Support work-study students
5. Provide individual support to students
6. With support, help plan and facilitate workshops and/or events

Reports to:
Associate Director of Career Readiness & Integration, Career Services
Pay Rate/Hours
$18/hour – 15 hours/week

Significance of Project:

Contribution to Student’s Professional Development
Graduate Assistants will contribute to the long-term learning and career preparation of students as they seek support for their current/future endeavors.

Contribution to Career Programming/Project
When the student completes this Graduate Assistantship, they will have gained career counseling and employer relations skills and have experienced being a valued member of the Career Services team. They will be prepared to utilize their skills as they progress their professional careers in Career Services and related fields.
