Graduate Coordinator of Undergraduate Peer Advising – Academic Advising

The Graduate Coordinator of Undergraduate Peer Advising will supervise undergraduate peer advisors and work with undergraduate students on an appointment and walk-in basis to assist with academic success planning in the Academic Advising office. The Graduate Coordinator of Undergraduate Peer Advising will also assist in the training/shadowing process for Peer Advisors and will be expected to assist with additional tasks when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

The bulk of responsibilities will occur during scheduled hours to address general advising questions. Training will be provided for all job functions. Position responsibilities include:?

Train, support, and supervise 5-7 undergraduate Peer Advisors who meet with students regarding:

  • Discussion about declaring/switching majors
  • Degree Tracker & What-If Scenarios

  • Assist with creating Academic Planner plans

  • Prepare for faculty advising meetings

  • Course Registration

  • Assistance with transfer credits

  • Questions about prerequisites and other graduation requirements

  • Referrals to other departments

Programming, Workshops, and Campaigns:

  • Develop and implement informational programming for important dates and reminders regarding Academic Advising

  • Create and host workshops to actively support students in Academic Advising

  • Build infrastructure for and monitor Registration/Advising Prep and Eligible Non-Registered Campaigns

  • Create Academic Advising resources for Peer Advisors when working with students in individual settings

Create and hold student workshops on a variety of relevant advising topics:

  • Academic skill building and mentorship

Meet and foundationally advise undergraduate students, as needed

Campus partner event support:

  • Assistance with orientations, open houses, and accepted student’s day

  • Programming efforts around campus

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned an undergraduate bachelor’s degree

  • Enrolled in a Salem State University graduate program

  • Is available to work 15 hours a week during office business hours

$22.00/hr
